ChatGPT: a year of groundbreaking progress and future opportunities
It has been a year since ChatGPT was launched. With more than 100 million active users within two months of launch, ChatGPT experienced the fastest ever adoption of a technology tool.
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has already revolutionized the way many companies operate. The bulk of Fortune 500 companies have now embraced ChatGPT en masse, making it an indispensable part of their daily operations. From streamlining customer service to improving internal communications, the applications are endless.
ChatGPT’s technological progress since its launch a year ago is also remarkable. With features such as Vision and Speech, it has expanded its scope into new domains. Companies can now use ChatGPT for visual data analysis and voice-driven interactions, leading to much more efficient and effective business processes and increasingly intuitive use. The most recent and probably most impressive development is the ability for companies to develop their own GPT models within ChatGPT. This opens a world of possibilities for personalized AI applications tailored to an organization’s specific needs. From automating routine tasks to providing advanced analytical insights, the potential of these personalized models is enormous.
ChatGPT’s impact extends far beyond traditional IT departments. Or perhaps we should say that its enormous ease of use is precisely why it is being picked up so quickly outside traditional IT departments. For example, it is already being used in healthcare to analyze patient data, in finance to improve risk analysis and in the creative industries to generate innovative designs and concepts. This versatility has led to a huge wave of new AI-based products and services with companies in all kinds of industries increasingly and increasingly benefiting from the power of AI. And we are only at the beginning….
The spectacular development of AI over the past few years was clearly highlighted by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at his recent first DevDay. “What we launch today will look very modest compared to what we are developing for you now,” Altman said, pointing to the promising future of AI. OpenAI’s DevDay not only marked ChatGPT’s one-year anniversary, but also symbolized the beginning of a technological battle in Silicon Valley and other places around the world. This battle was initiated by the unveiling of ChatGPT in November 2022 and has resulted in significant advances in AI technologies. From accessible AI chatbots and their underlying language models to AI-generated images and increasingly realistic avatars. This rapid growth has attracted attention even at the highest levels, with President Joe Biden issuing an executive order on AI and the pope expressing serious concerns about the technology.
All this brings me to the question: what is your company doing with AI? Have you had any experience with concrete applications? Do you already have an AI Strategy and associated action plan that supports your ambition, business model and daily work?
